Anyone Need a Google Wave Invitation?

Google's latest buzz is called "Buzz". I'm still wondering if there are people who still uses complex service Google Wave, after the launch of Google Buzz. I'm a big fan of Buzz and am pretty regular at it. Last time I logged in to my Wave account and noticed that I'm given the power of inviting others to Wave account. I don't know if there are people still interested in trying out Google Wave. However, if there are people out there who are still hunting for a Google Wave invitation, request one here.

How to get more [valuable] Followers on twitter

0

Yesterday I spent the whole day on twitter. Using my mobile, I was reading others’ tweets and it was really good if I except those boring tweets.

While a number of ‘true twitterers’ were updating their status on valuable things, a number of twitterers were tweeting the same message again and again. The structure of those tweets was like: “I just got this awesome site which brought hundreds of Followers to me http://blahblahblah.com”.
There were a lot of twitterers who were continuously tweeting this type of messages. Take a look at @Mo5lim and @techmantras. Do they have anything else to tweet about? I guess, no.

Now I’m repenting why did I turn auto-follow on from tweetlater service! Due to those spammers, I have just turned off “auto-follow them who follow me” option from my tweetlater service. And have just started to remove some people I started to follow automatically.

Now, there comes a question. Do I need followers only? To me, the number of follower is less important than the person who is following. Keep in mind, if you’re on your mind, you should be looking for some ‘valuable’ followers instead of spammers. As you might know, it takes lots of efforts to bring valuable followers. Although they are saying that those sites can bring hundreds of followers a day, it’s way better to spend some time to get some followers who matter.

So, what should I do?

Here’s what I learned from my tweeting experience. I’m not a newbie in twitter. Well, once upon a time, I was ;) But now, I’m not. Of course, I’m not even a godfather of twitter. I’m just letting you know the way how you can gain some truly valuable followers.

Follow First

After you’ve signed up on twitter, use twitter search (Find People) to find out those people you know. You can also use “Find on other networks” tab to import contacts from you Yahoo, Gmail, or AOL Email in order to find out how many of them are already on twitter. This is the first way to reach some people on twitter who already know you.

Follow randomly

You have to follow some people who you don’t know. You can see anyone’s profile to have a look what they are tweeting and who they are (on the short-bio). Don’t know where to find twitter id? Here are some tips on how you can find out twitter IDs:

  • Keep an eye on “Suggested Users” tab under “Find People” option. They are the people who are recommended by twitter to follow.
  • Never miss any Friday on twitter. Fridays are called Follow Friday. In case you missed it, search for #ff or #FollowFriday using the search box at the right sidebar. Note: The hash (#) is used to indicate a topic from twitter public timeline.
  • Take some time to see your friends’ profile. Find out the people your friends are following. Since you’re a newbie, you should follow anyone you find interest in.
  • Click on the trending topics to join into a discussion. Your replies will make others reply back at you. And if you seem interesting, people will follow you.
  • Just one caution: Don’t be massive in following people. Everyone won’t follow you back as soon as you follow them.

Spread yourself

Yes, you have to spread yourself. If you are maintaining some kind of blogs or websites, they could be the best source to gain some followers from. Put a “Follow me” or “Follow us” button on the web/blog and link that to you twitter profile. This way you will continuously be gaining new followers.
You can also include a “Follow me on twitter @yourtwitterID” at the end of every email you send. To spread it more, publish it on Facebook, update it on your Yahoo or Windows’ messenger to let your friends see that you are on twitter.

Keep an eye on others’ status

You should not be self-motivated on twitter. Always try not to skip any single tweets from your timeline (Your timeline means your and your friends’ updates). If there’s nothing interesting on your timeline, search for something you are interested in. For example, if you’re willingly to read some tweets on Apollo 11, just search it using the box at the right sidebar of your twitter window.

Once you find interest in a tweet, you can follow that person. But remember, that isn’t it.  You should reply to any person you want. That will increase your visibility on twitter timeline. How? Just put an @[his/her id] in your status and update it. Make the reply interesting and decent so that the person may reply you back. This way his followers will see his reply along with your id. Just two advice: Don’t be rude and be honest and decent.

Try to put yourself in front of everyone

Each time you’re updating a status on any specific topic, put a hash tag along with the keyword/tag of it.  Don’t put any space between hash and the keyword. Here’s an example how your twitter status should be like:

“Google announces its first operating system for computers — Google Chrome OS http://su.pr/193kB9 #Google”

So, this status will be visible in the search result of  “#Google” on twitter public timeline.

Shoot tweets!

Now you’ve got at least some followers. It’s your time to fasten your belt to start shooting awesome tweets. Keep in mind, your tweets are what make followers decide whether they should follow you or not anymore.
You decide what to tweet and what not to tweet. You can tweet what you are doing. You can tweet what you like to do. But they won’t make your followers interested in you. So, along with tweeting all of your personal stuffs, you have to find out some tweets that will make you an interesting person to follow.

Tweets don’t grow on trees; you have to make them

So, you have to tweet something that will help, entertain or chill your followers. For example, tweet whenever you find an interesting article, video or a picture somewhere on the net. Tweet if you have something creative in your mind. Often, you can tweet some jokes — or maybe something funny that really happened.
You can also be famous by breaking a news. If anything big takes place before your eyes, that might be an accident or something similar, just tweet it on twitter. Don’t forget to include the hash tag along with relevant topic/tag/keyword. You’ll see how things happen.

ReTweet

This means tweeting something that has already been tweeted. Imagine you’ve seen a nice update from your friends/followers, you can simply retweet it. Just put these things: “RT” and “@[originaltwitterer'sID]“. This will make others want to retweet your tweets.

On the other hand, if you can tweet something really worthy and interesting, they will be retweeted by your followers as well. This will increase your visibility across twitter and will gain some more followers for you.

Question that appeals an answer

Use your brain to create some occasional questions that will indirectly force your followers to answer. Don’t make something that will criticize you. Just ask something funny or interesting. Your main goal is to seek answers from your followers. Include a hash in your tweets to get known in twitter public timeline. Whenever someone replies to you, your twitter id is aired one more time. This way you can make a rich discussion with the people on twitter. Even you will discover that people who are not following you will take part in the discussion if it’s interesting enough. Now you imagine how many times can your twitter id be aired?

Be Recommended!

Once you are established as a truly recommendable, nice and interesting twitterer, your followers will be recommending you helping you get even more followers. Keep one thing in mind, never think you are perfect. Always deep doing hard to gain more ‘valuable’ followers if you want to get the most out of twitter.

Handy notes:

Something that doesn’t need a whole paragraph to be said.

  • Use TweetLater service for automation. You can automatically follow people who follow you. You can also automatically unfollow people who remove you. Note: Auto-Follow is not recommended as spammers may get followed by you. But auto un-follow is highly recommended. You don’t need to hear those guys who don’t hear you, do you?
  • Stay away from throwing disgusting tweets that has no use or makes people feel bored or annoying.
  • Stop over-tweeting. People want to follow everyone, not only you. On the other hand, updating too many status at short time will result you get banned by twitter. Everyone hates a spammer, ok?
  • Don’t forget to write up a short-bio about yourself. Be intelligent to write about yourself. This is what makes the first virtual impression of you. The same thing applies to all of your tweets. Take some time before you air a tweet. One single tweet may throw many followers away or bring massive number of followers towards you.

  • Great post! I'd say when you are looking for valuable people to follow, try the Twitter directories: Twellow, WeFollow, and JustTweetIt are good places to start. Users can put their profile in these by interest. It's good to put yourself in those as well, as people can find you that way too!

  • u should follow the people who are active on twitter. When u want to follow anybody just see their time of update. If its like that > 5 second ago, 3 hours ago, 13 hours ago or one day ago... then follow them... but if they dont update frequently like.. 5 days ago, 13 days ago or 1 month ago... dont follow them. because they are not active in twitter.

  • @Shajib Mahmud, Thanks for your comment. But I do not completely agree with you. Spammers are highly active in twitter. On the other hand, big guys are less active. In fact, the best decision is to take a look at his/her tweets to have an idea about the twitterer.
  • Excellent article. Thanks to share

Yes it is really annoying when i saw that some one only share link (spamming). When i follow or follow back some-one try to read their latest tweet.

    @ Sajib,

You can use vetfollowers on tweetlater to control Auto-follow.

  • @Shankor Bhawal, True. I have turned auto-follow off. I don't need that option anymore.
