WordPress is the best engine for blogging platforms. Do you know what made it the best? It’s ease of use, user-friendliness and lots of plug-ins providing amazing features which helps to create a fantastic blog that will look awesome. You create and manage your writings, and wordpress and its plug-ins will manage and make your blog awesome and great. But most new wordpress users fail to deal with plug-ins. In the first times of my blogging life, I started with a free blog in wordpress.com and that’s why I didn’t have to suffer or learn anything in my self-hosted blog. But wordpress.com free blogs don’t allow users to install or activate any additional plug-ins. So in the first time, I myself couldn’t deal with the plug-ins. But now, I see it’s something easier than writing a post. If you are having trouble installing a plug-in to your self-hosted wordpress blog, please try installing the plug-in in any of the following ways.

1. Direct zip upload and auto-unpack

The new versions of wordpress lets you install the plug-ins in an easy and quick way. Just go to your dashboard and then Plugins > Add New. You’ll find a file uploading option where you will have to upload the zip file of the plug-in. Once uploaded, wordpress will automatically unpack the plugin and you will then be able to activate or delete the plug-in from Dashboard > Plugins > Installed.

2. Done after a few clicks!

The new versions of wordpress lets you install the plugins with just a few clicks only. Just keep the name of the plug-in in mind. Then go to Plugins > Add New from Dashboard. Select “Term” from the drop down menu right before the search box. Type the name of the plugin in the box and press enter. A list will show the relevant plugins. Click “Install” from the right side and then click “Download”. Once downloaded, you can activate or deactivate the plugin anytime from your Dashboard’s Plugins menu.

3. Ancient manual plugin download

This is the ancient and most complex method of installing wordpress plugins. First of all, you need to know your FTP login information. Find an FTP client and login to your FTP panel. Point your FTP at the directory “/wp-contents/plugins” and upload the decompressed file(s) there. Once uploaded, check out if the plugin is installed successfully. You can check it from your wordpress Dashboard > Plugins > Installed menu. If your installation was completed, then your plugin will be shown in the list as deactivated. You can simply activate the plugin by clicking “Activate” at any time.

If you are looking for a web-based integrated FTP client, I recommend Net2Ftp which I found to be the best web-based FTP client. It’s also free to use! So check out now. Take a look at its features before you go.

After your plugin is activated, you can change or edit the options for that plugin. Option is located as sub-menu under the Settings menu in your wordpress Dashboard.

Now, I think you are familiar with wordpress plug-ins’ deal! Is there anything that you would like to tell me? Please leave a comment. Your comment is cordially invited as always.
